George Alan Kirk, 62, of Carbondale, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, surrounded by his loving family.
George was born in Carbondale to James Albert and Ria Dianne (Anderson) Kirk, who instilled in him a deep love for family and community.
George graduated from Carbondale Community High School in 1980, Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1984, and a Master’s in Business Administration in 1986. He received his PhD in Business Administration in 1996 at Texas Tech University-Lubbock.
George served as an Associate Professor of Marketing at Southern University Baton Rouge for over 20 years. He loved his students and teaching. His greatest joy was seeing students graduate and be successful. He has kept in touch with so many of them and they kept in strong.
He is survived by his brother, Jon Paul Kirk, and his sister-in-law, Alison, of Carbondale, sister, Kathie and Mike Lorentz of Carbondale. George was a beloved uncle to Gregory and Jamie Lorentz of Carterville, Danielle and Logan Jeralds and Paige Rose Kirk all of Carbondale and great uncle to Cameron Lingfelter and Lillian Lorentz of Carterville.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Dianne Kirk.
George will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. His warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will remain in their hearts forever.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. till 2:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home of Carbondale with services immediately following at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Casey Raymer officiating. The Interment will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, Tennessee 38105, or to any charitable organization of choice.
