Joseph F. Knaga – Carbondale May 30, 2014

CARBONDALE — Joseph F. Knaga, 68, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014, in Marion.

Joe was born Sept. 2, 1945 in Kankakee, the son of Joseph and Jeanette Knaga.

He married Carol Eppelsheimer on April 17, 1971, and she survives.

Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1969. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in marketing.

He had owned and operated Joe’s Meat Block and Joe’s Sausage and Meat in Kankakee. For 27 years, he and his wife Carol have owned and operated the Sirloin Hut food concession.

Joe loved working with wood and built furniture in his spare time. He also like to fish when his time permitted.

He was a member of the Carbondale Noon Kiwanis club for many years.

His grandchildren were the best thing to happen to him.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Kendra Suzanne Knaga and son, Joseph Michael Knaga, both of Carbondale; and three grandchildren, Kira Lynn Saginario of Florida, Olivia Cecile Rebellon of Carbondale and Michael Joseph Knaga of Carbondale.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ronti Saginario; and by his parents.

Per Joe’s wishes, he will be cremated and taken to Kankakee.

A celebration of life “Joe Style” will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at the Field of Dreams in De Soto.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to his family.

Walker Funeral Home of Carbondale is in charge of arrangements.
