Lily Burris – Carbondale January 9, 2013

CARBONDALE— Lily J. Burris, 80, died at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Lily was born March 6, 1932, in Macoupin County, to John William Marie Jane (Hineman) Waters.

She married Edward M. Burris Feb. 15, 1953, in Springfield, and he preceded her in death July 14, 1993.

She was owner of Burris Disposal for over 54 years.

Survivors include daughters, Brenda Chouris and husband, Ron, of Karney, Mo., Vicky Brinkley and husband, Jim, of Providence, Ky.; son, Greg Burris and wife, Marsha, of Carbondale; daughter, Camela Ramey and husband, David, of Murray, Ky.; grandchildren, Lee and Shane Brinkley, Shawn and Dawn Connor, Andrew Bencini, Lisa Gayer, Padra Franks, Cameron Bencini, Steven Burris, John Ramey and Lily Ramey; great-grandchildren, Amiah Franks, Jacob Gayer and Jordyn Gayer; siblings, Jim and Bill Waters and Nancy Priddy; and numerous nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie Waters; husband, Edward Burris and one son, Steven Burris.

She was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church over 50 years and had served as treasurer, member of the choir, Sunday school teacher, and went to Mexico on mission trips for almost 20 years.

She was an avid Bowler, loved going to auctions, traveling and was a Cardinals fan.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, in Walnut Street Baptist Church of Carbondale, with Minister Wes Henson officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 11, at Huffman-Harker-Funeral Home at 210 West Oak St., in Carbondale and from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Walnut Street Baptist Church building fund.
