Sharon Kay Grier – Marion, IL September 15, 2021

Sharon Kay 80 of Marion, Illinois was born on March 3. 1941 and transitioned from this life on September 15, 2021 in Carbondale, Illinois after spending several years at Integrity Health Care of Marion, Illinois.

Sharon Kay was born to Percy Pearl Kirby Miller and Orval Meeks, however she was adopted by her paternal grandparents Robert A. Meeks and Estella Meeks.

Sharon Kay is survived by her husband, Johnny Grier, daughter Doretha Day Myers of Oakland, Tennessee, son Lavern (Ray Jr.) Day of Memphis, Tennessee, sisters Ramelda Hatchett of Chandler, Arizona, Loretta Jackson of Chicago, Illinois, Judith Petty and Ona Funderburg of Racine, Wisconsin and 1 brother Lawrence Kirby of Hertford, North Carolina, 4 granddaughters, Serita Adjin of Cordova, Tennessee, Denese (Terrence) Burks of Bartlett, Tennessee, Donna (Rodraious) Harden of Atoka, Tennessee and Raychel D. Day of Memphis, Tennessee.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Robert A. and Estella Meeks as well as her youngest daughter Estella M. Day.

Sharon Kay had great passion for preaching the Gospel of the Lord Jesus and was ordained in the African Methodist Episcopal Church August 1981 and eventually traveled to Kenya East Africa on several mission trips and she also pastored for several churches in Metropolis and Brook Port, Illinois. Sharon was a talented songstress, seamstress and was a licensed hair stylist in Southern Illinois for over 50 years. She was known for making her own clothing, curtains reupholstering and building furniture. She was never afraid to get her hands dirty either spiritually or naturally, if there was work to get done, she was ready and able to do it.

Funeral services will be held at Rock Hill Baptist Church, 219 East Monroe St, Carbondale, Illinois, Saturday, September 25, 2021 with the viewing/visitation at 10 am and the funeral starting at 11 am.

Repass will be held at Mt Olive Baptist Church 604 Mt Olive St, Colp, IL

Walker Funeral Home of Carbondale has been entrusted with arrangements.
