It was a shock when my wife told me of Jeff’s passing. She is on Facebook and I’m not. We had known each other for many years. We were both in the 126th ARW (Air Refueling Wing) of the Illinois Air National Guard (in Chicago). We also lived and went to school (SIU-C) in the Carbondale area. The hours and miles we spent traveling back and forth from the Carbondale area to Chicago for drill is incalculable.

He was a good friend/buddy/comrade. Since I left the Carbondale area and the ANG we kind of lost contact. That is a failure on my part, I’m not good at keeping in touch with people. I recently (16 May) texted him about property I purchased in the country, for retirement. He responded with a, “Very cool”. Who knew he would be gone a week later. Being the county boy he was I was hoping to have him out to my place when I get it established.

Jeff was a person that gave of himself to others. My wife and I were on the receiving end of his generosity and try to follow his example and pass it on to others.

My deepest condolences are with his wife, Lisa, and the rest of his family. Jeff will be sorely missed.
