Richard Allan Jumps Jr., 77, passed away peacefully at Marion Deaconess Hospital on November 6th, 2024.
He was born March 4, 1947 in Danville, Illinois to Richard Allan Jumps Sr. and Katherine (Mayoras) Jumps.
He and Barbara (Miner) Jumps were married on April 19, 1974. After Barbara’s passing, Richard married Paula (Switzer) Jumps. Richard was a 1980 graduate of Southern Illinois University. After proudly serving in the US Navy, Richard began working for the United States Postal Office where he resumed working until he retired in 2000. Richard had a passion for the outdoors and cooking. He took great joy in his two favorite activities, which were gardening and grilling. He looked forward to spending time tending to his beloved hostas, relaxing listening to his waterfall and making meals for his family and friends.
Richard’s friends and family would describe him as a caring and generous man with a heart of gold, and a sarcastic sense of humor that made him someone that was always fun to be around. The only thing that Richard loved more than the outdoors was his family. He loved spending time with his children, but being a grandfather to his grandchildren was his greatest joy. He loved spending time with them and could often be heard proudly bragging about them during casual conversations.
He is survived by his loving family: his daughter Rebecca (Eric) Tretsven, son Francis Barnett, son Jason (Tracy) Jumps, son Seth (Heather) Jumps, his mother Catherine Jumps, brother Michael (Julie) Jumps, brother John Jumps, brother Robert Jumps (Dina); many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and countless friends whose lives he touched throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Jumps, wife Paula Jumps, son Michael Barnett, brother William Jumps, sister Kathie From and his father Richard Jumps Sr.
Richard left many meaningful and happy memories for those who knew and loved him. His friends and family will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to their fullest, just as he always did.
