Brenda J. Henry, age 82, of Carbondale passed away at 2:36 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at home.
Brenda was born on June 29, 1941 at Marshall Browning Hospital to Delbert Eugene Shaw and Doris Irene (Heape) Shaw. She graduated from Elkville High School in 1959. She married Jim Henry on December 31, 1959.
In her youth, Brenda loved to work at the DuQuoin Fair. As an adult, she was employed at the Beauty Chateau in DuQuoin and Herrin as a clerk at P. N. Hirsch and retired from J.C. Penney as a senior merchandiser.
Brenda loved yard sales and dealing with junk and antiques. She had stores and/or booths in Cobden, Anna, Carbondale, Benton, Murphysboro, Herrin and SIU Arena yard sale. She also did antique shows in Cape Girardeau, MO; DuQuoin, IL; Nashville, TN; and Louisville, KY.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Dawn Michelle (Doug) Enyart; brother, John Shaw of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda, IL at 10 a.m. Friday July 7, 2023. With pastor Michael R. Williams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Walker Funeral Home and Crematory of Carbondale, IL is entrusted with arrangements.
