Elizabeth Ann Schmitt ~ Carbondale
Elizabeth Ann Schmitt, 81, passed away peacefully at Manor Court in Carbondale, surrounded by her family at 10:37 p.m. Monday December 10, 2018 in Carbondale.

Elizabeth was born September 25, 1937, in Yonkers, New York the daughter of Frederick and Harriet (Elliott) Lena.

After receiving her B.A in English from Marymount College and her M.A in English Literature from the University of Detroit, she served as a teacher for over 40 years, working with students at Fox Lane Middle School in Bedford, NY and at Riverdale Country School in the Bronx, NY, to help them achieve their goals.

She lived in Bedford Village, NY where she raised her family, from 1968 until her retirement in 2005, at which time she moved to Carbondale, IL

Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Barbara Eidlin of Carbondale; Kat (Stephen) Roth, and grandchildren, Christopher Roth and Patrick Roth, of Maryland; nieces Nancy Bruns of Massachusetts, and Ruth Cribbs of Florida, great-niece Emma (Matthew) Rifflemacher and great-gran- nieces, Eloise and Elena Rifflemacher, of Holden, MA; ex-husband, Louis J. Schmitt of Shelter Island, NY, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Harriet Lena; sister, Mary Hall, brother-in law, Robert Hall, Nephew Jack Cribbs, and mother and father-in-law Cecilia and Louis W. Schmitt.

Per her wishes she will be cremated, and a private memorial service will be held.
