Ervin Dean Stroud, 75, passed away Thanksgiving morning November 23, 2023 at 1:02 a.m. surrounded by his loved ones.
Ervin was born April 5, 1948 in Murphysboro, Illinois, the son of the late Hilmer and Dorothy (Qualls) Stroud.
He married Mary Lou Easterly, and she preceded him in death September 12, 2002.
At a young age Ervin chose work over education. He worked many jobs and retired as a laborer. Ervin was a simple man that never asked for anything but was always there if someone was in need.
He had the best stories and never met a stranger. He loved fishing, raising all kinds of animals, spending time with his kids, grandkids, and donkeys.
Ervin moved to Voyage in June of 2023. Even though his stay there was only 5 months he loved every minute of it. The amazing care and bond he developed with Steven, Chasity, Christina, Kelsy, Charity, Constance, Linda, and Donna just to name a few was priceless. Not only was their care great but he made many new friends. Listening to the stories from some of the residents has truly helped us to heal in this time of grief.
Ervin is survived by one son and daughter-in law Shane and Casey Stroud and one daughter and son-in-law Lynn and Donnie Dirden; his precious grandchildren; Shannon, Cassie, Caylie and fiancé Patrick, Colt, Gatlin, Brandy and her husband Joshua, Jesse and his girlfriend Annie; and great grandchildren Kailee and Kaylynn; and fur baby Poncho; sister; Phyllis Driskell; brothers-in-laws; Allen (Butchi) Dean; Mike (Robin) Easterly and Dale Chadwick; sister-in laws; Melba Easterly; Sharon (Bob) Jennings; several nieces nephews and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Hilmer and Dorothy Stroud; his wife Mary Lou Stroud; three brothers-in-laws; Gib “Shorty” Easterly; Charlie Sturgeon; Harold Driskoll; three sisters-in-law; Jeannie Easterly; JoAnn Sturgeon; Debbie Chadwick; mother-in-law Dorothy Easterly; father-in law Gilbert Easterly; daughter-in-law Sandy (Morber) Stroud.
Ervin’s wishes were to be cremated.
There will be a Celebration of life on December 10, 2023 from 1 – 5 p.m. at Dry Lake 43 Dry Lake Road Murphysboro, Illinois.
Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Southern Illinois entrusted with arrangements.
