Gary F. Moon, 77, of Energy, Illinois, passed away at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 3:52 am. He was born on February 26, 1942 in Cobden, Illinois to Harvey and Norma (Penland) Moon.
Gary graduated from Carbondale Community High School. He was the owner of Gary’s Auto Body, Inc. for over 30 years. He loved going to the races, watching University of Kentucky games, and showing his 1936 Ford. Even though Gary was a quiet person, he loved his family more than anything.
Gary leaves behind the love of his life, Brenda Hill-Walker. Sons Jeff (Micki) Moon and Joe (Tina) Moon as well at stepson Chuck (Natalie) Walker and stepdaughter Chelsea Walker, grandchildren Cody, Amy and Ella Jo Moon. Gary also leaves behind brothers Larry (Helen) Moon, Curt (Julie) Moon, Denny (Penny) Moon, sisters Glenda McDaniel and Brenda Moon. Extended family Jeff (Gina) Hill, Zach Hill, and Helen M. Hill as well as numerous nieces, nephews and his beloved furbaby Toby who loved to cruise down Park Street with Gary in his ’36 Ford.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts and uncles, and Robert W. Hill.
Visitation for Gary will be at Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale on Tuesday, May 28 from 5 – 7pm. There will not be a formal service. The family asks that if you have a racing shirt to wear it since Gary was an avid racing fan.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for providing Gary with such wonderful care and keeping him comfortable during this difficult time.
