James Earl Jones was born August 17, 1970 at 7:38 PM to Gary Don Jones and Sheila Dianne Russell at Holden Hospital in Carbondale, Illinois.
James, better known as Jimbo or just Bo, was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors. His favorite thing was watching or coaching his son, Bodie, in baseball. Jimbo had coached baseball for DeSoto Grade School and several independent ball teams. He resigned from playing slow pitch softball after being chosen for the all-state team so he could focus on his son’s baseball.
Jimbo worked as director of maintenance for Home Rentals, and we want to thank them for all the support they have given him during his illness. He loved his job and all the people that worked in the company.
Jimbo leaves behind his son Bodie Jones, stepdaughter Hannah Clark, his 3 sisters, Micki (Jeff) Moon of DeSoto, Tammy (Jason) Coffer of Evansville, IN and Chrissy (Dereck) Bittner of DeSoto. His mother also survives and his two best friends, Phil Bullar and Dustin Swain. He also leaves 7 nieces and nephews Cody (Teresa) Moon, Amy (Gabe) Wece, Levi (Kaitlyn Coffer and daughter Avery, Riley Coffer, Miranda VanZandt and daughter Addie, MaKenzi (Draeden) Kreger and Kierstyn Bittner.
He was preceded in death by his father, dear friend BJ Johnson and grandparents Bob and Dolores Russell, Don and Mary Jones and Allen and Margie Horn.
After Jim got the diagnosis of cancer, he worried so much about small children having to endure the things he was enduring so we believe it would make him feel great if you wanted to make a donation to St. Jude’s in his memory at the following: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
We wish to thank all the nurses and techs on the fourth floor of Carbondale Memorial Hospital for all the loving care they gave him. The men and women went above and beyond in giving him care and seeing that the family was comfortable.
Celebration of Life will be held at the Carbondale Elks Lodge #1243 August 16, 2024 from 6:30 pm to 11:30 pm. Cash bar, karaoke and pork steak dinner available for $12. Dinner includes pork steak, baked beans, potato salad and dessert. Please RSVP for pork steak dinner so we can get a count by Wednesday August 14, 2024. Come down and tell your favorite Jimbo story. Let’s laugh, cry and remember the good times.
Walker Funeral Home of Carbondale entrusted with arrangements.
