Jerry Lynn Barnes, 86 passed away peacefully Saturday, November 11, 2023 (Veteran’s Day) at the Herrin Hospital.
Jerry was born on July 21, 1937 to Orvil L. & Rosalie (Pedigo) Barnes in Herrin, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife Ophelia Barnes of Herrin, Illinois; daughters; Pamela Bryant Perry of Zeigler, Illinois and Dena Sledge of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; sons; Lance and Carla Barnes of Benton, Illinois; Jason and Leslie Barnes of Youngsville, North Carolina; grandchildren; Ron Bryant; Bionca Brown; Adrea (Barnes) Petro; Aaron Barnes; five great grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and close friends.
Jerry was proceeded in death by his parents Orvile and Rosalie Barnes, grandparents, Roscoe & Martha Pedigo & Frank & Ona Barnes, his two sons Wesley Barnes and Kevin Barnes.
Jerry was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of the American Legion Color Guard, Herrin American Legion post #645, Herrin Masonic Lodge # 693, Zeigler Fraternal Order of Eagles #2444, Herrin VFW & the West Frankfort Elks Lodge #1340. Jerry worked as a coal miner and business owner of OJ’s in Zeigler, Illinois.
A Celebration of life & rights will be held later.
Walker Funeral Home of Carbondale entrusted with arrangements.
