Jordan Brooks Burr ~ Carbondale September 13, 1989 - March 2, 2023

On March 2, 2023 the world lost an extra-brilliant and special shining star; his name was JORDAN BROOKS BURR, born on September 13, 1989. Suddenly and unexpectedly, he was sent home to be with his Heavenly Father, joining brother Christopher. Jordan and Christopher may have been opposites in many ways, but in the end, these two brothers simply didn’t like being apart/separated by death.

Jordan was the beloved son of Dr. Brooks M. Burr and Ingrid Hansen of Carbondale, Illinois. He will be missed more than words can say.

Jordan attended Parrish, Winkler, and Thomas schools in Carbondale where he was every year selected to be in the Academically talented program; Jordan, year after year, consistently scored in the 99% nationally on school assessment tests in EVERY SUBJECT.

Jordan graduated from CCHS in 2008 and graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 2013 with a B. S. degree in Integrative Biology. He took French at U of I and spent a summer in Arles, France-Study Abroad Program–where Vincent Van Gogh painted some of his most well-known art pieces.

An accomplished pianist, Jordan took lessons for 10 years studying under ALYCE WARD, using the Suzuki Piano Method; at just age 5, Jordan could play difficult Bach, Schumann, Hummel, Mozart, Chopin… He performed in numerous recitals over the years: at Washington University in St. Louis. Also, in Chicago, Memphis, Louisville, and many times at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

At age 9, Jordan decided to join a local Tae Kwan Do (Korean martial arts) dojo; he competed in several tournaments and earned numerous trophies and medals. He was a first-degree blue belt. His favorite sports were tennis and soccer and he enjoyed throwing the football and working plays with his dad in the street. He collected Pokémon cards and using his cards when playing the game.

Jordan loved listening to music; some of his favorite artists were Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Adele, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen. Titanic and Braveheart were two of his favorite movies, and he listened to their soundtracks frequently over the years.

Jordan was fascinated by Asian culture and history and enjoyed Anime movies and was an expert on the ancient warring that took place in Japan and China. He knew every battle and General in wars that were centuries old. He also excelled at chess and played for many years until he could not increase his overall score. He was an accomplished video gamer and beat every game he played and often challenged his brother Christopher to a variety of contests (e.g., Resident Evil, Doom, Call of Duty).

Jordan’s biggest fear; “being stuck in a boring job.”

In Middle and High School, Jordan slept every night with our Rottweiler (Boss) and Pit Bull (Tyson) both of whom took up most of the bed! He loved the dogs and cats that we had at that time.

Jordan leaves behind his parents and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins. His only sibling, Christopher Brooks, also, suddenly & unexpectedly passed away in 2016.

We will miss Jordan’s sense of humor, his extensive knowledge of many subjects, his enjoyment of technology, his intelligence, and his perfect and symmetrical facial features. We will continue to love him and keep him close in our memories and dreams.

Jordan was a Graduate Student and Researcher at the time of his death.
