CARBONDALE — Marilyn Colleen McMurphy, 91, passed away Wednesday March 20, 2019, in Manor Court in Carbondale.
Marilyn was born April 5, 1927, in Jackson County, the daughter of the late William and Elzora (Warfield) Morefield.
She was united in marriage to Gordon G. McMurphy on March 11, 1944, in Cobden. Gordon preceded her in death Aug. 8, 2006. They shared more than 62 wonderful years of marriage.
She was a lifelong member of Boskeydell Baptist Church.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Brenda and husband Jim Koesterer of New Athens; Jeff and wife Kathy McMurphy of Makanda; grandchildren, Amber McMurphy, Justin McMurphy, Courtney McMurphy, David Wittlich, and Jennifer McCarthy; great-grandchildren, Haley Wittlich, Jakob McCarthy, Morgan McCarthy, and Kayden Mulcahy; sister Vivian Johnston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elzora Morefield; husband, Gordon McMurphy; four brothers; and four sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 25, in Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale, with the Rev. Stephen Combs officiating. Interment will be in Lipe Cemetery in Makanda. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to donor’s choice in Memory of Marilyn.
