Wayne Stanley “Stan” Schwartz—passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Stan was born on October 15, 1945, in Centralia, IL, to Martin Schwartz and Madelon (Buchannan) Schwartz. He graduated Centralia High School in 1963 and attended Centralia College where he earned a degree in Business. He worked for S. S. Kresge as an Assistant Manager before becoming an Allstate agent in Carbondale, IL, where he worked for 42 years, retiring in 2009. He was a diehard Saluki Fan and supporter of Saluki Athletics. Stan was an avid fisherman and hunter and was very involved with his children’s sports, even coaching a few of their summer teams. He was a master griller and enjoyed hosting fish frys. For over 20 years he was involved with the Special Olympics Fishing for Friendship event in Carbondale, IL.
Stan was preceded in death by both parents, sisters Carolyn Schwartz (Shook) and Linda Schwartz (Smith), brother Michael Schwartz. He is survived by wife Madeline (Karraker) Schwartz; son Scott (Sheryl) Schwartz; daughter Tammy (Jeff) Vaughn; son Brad Schwartz (Liz Spees); stepdaughter Sondra Johnson; stepdaughter Tamatha (Rob) Blair, and 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale, IL, from 11-1 on Saturday, May 4th. There will be a Celebration of Life from 2-4 at Route 51 Brewery Company, just north of Carbondale in Elkville.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Special Olympics 2300 West Main Street Suite C, Marion, Illinois 62959 as this was a cause close to Stan’s heart.

I know he will be missed by many in Carbondale and beyond. This picture is the Stan I remember from our last meeting!! Rest in peace my friend!!!!
