William Orlando Cook affectionately known as “Tippy” joined his parents Eddie and Ruth Cook in eternal rest on January 12, 2023. “The nickname “Tippy” was given to him by his cousin Hinda “Ms. Ann”. William was born in Coxton, Harlan County Kentucky and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. William resided in Carbondale for over 50 years and is a Carbondale icon. William was an All-Star football player playing defensive end at Manassas High School in Memphis, Tennessee. He also was a football player at SIUC. William is a forever Saluki.
William is also co-owner of the Global Gourmet Restaurant. He is an alumni and former employee of SIUC. William is a proud member of Iota Phi Theta, Fraternity, Inc. and a Kentucky Colonel. William leaves behind to cherish his memory, loving daughter Silvella Cook StrainTerry (Seth) South Holland, IL, beloved sister LaRuth Cook Pulliam (Cedric) Memphis, TN, special cousin/sister Hinda “Ms. Ann” Tentman Thurman (Leroy), Lexington, KY, beloved uncle Reverend Dr. Obie Tentman Jr. (Jewel), Sacramento, CA, cherished granddaughter Sophia Betts, cherished nephews Oliver Cook Pugh, Obie Charles Johnson, Orlando Casey Johnson, friend and business partner Andrea Barclay, former wife and friend Dr. Pam James Strain, his Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc. family, extended family, numerous friends and associates.
Visitation: Friday, January 20, 2023 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at Walker Funeral Home, located at 112 S. Poplar Carbondale, Illinois.
Wake: 11:00am and Funeral 12 noon Saturday, January 21, 2023 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church located at 803 N Robert A Stalls Ave Carbondale Illinois. With Darryl K. Cox officiating.
Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale entrusted with arrangements.
